Sri Lanka beat Australia in 5th T20I: Records broken
Australia failed to complete a clean sweep over Sri Lanka in the five-match T20I series on Sunday. The World T20 champions were beaten by Sri Lanka in the fifth T20I at the MCG. Australia won the series 4-1. Batting first, Australia were reduced to 85/5 before Matthew Wade's 43* saw them post 154/6. In response, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka helped SL win.
How did the match pan out?
Australia were off to a poor start, losing two wickets for 12 runs. After some resistance, they were reduced from 55/2 to 82/5. Wade played a sensational knock and was helped by Daniel Sams (18). For Lanka, Dushmantha Chameera claimed figures worth 2/30. In response, SL were 71/4 before Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka added an 83-run stand. SL got past the line.
Maxwell achieves these feats
Glenn Maxwell scored a 21-ball 29 for the Aussies. The all-rounder hammered two fours and a six. Maxwell has now raced to 424 runs versus SL in T20Is at 60.57. He is the second Aussie after David Warner (512) to surpass the mark of 400. Overall, Maxwell has amassed 1,982 runs at 30.96. He has surpassed Mahmudullah (1,971) and Kevin O'Brien (1,973).
Sri Lanka pull one back in the H2H record
This was the 22nd T20I between the two sides. Sri Lanka won their ninth T20I vs Australia (9-12). The second T20I was tied before Australia sealed a Super Over win. Prior to this loss, Australia had won nine successive T20I matches against Sri Lanka (including the second T20I). The visitors have ended an eight-game losing run versus Australia Down Under.
Mendis and Shanaka script these records
Kusal Mendis (69*) has gone past the 600-run mark in T20Is. He has become the 11th Lankan batter to achieve this mark. Mendis surpassed Sanath Jayasuriya's tally of 629 runs. Mendis slammed his sixth T20I fifty and a maiden one versus Australia. Meanwhile, Dasun Shanaka has surpassed the 800-run mark in T20Is. He is the eighth Lankan batter to do so.
Wade shines for the Aussies
Wade powered his way through a 27-ball 43*. He smashed two fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 159.26. Wade has got to 789 runs in T20Is at 21.91. He has smashed his best score versus Sri Lanka as well.
