Aston Villa had a night to remember as they beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in matchweek 2 of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 season at home. Unai Emery's men made it two wins from two games. Jhon Duran made the difference as the Premier League club thwarted heavyweights Bayern in a massive night for the club. Goalkeeper Emi Martinez had a strong show as well.

Martinez, who was busy in making vital saves all night, denied Harry Kane a leveller in the 95th minute. Villa were compact in defense and made things count with Duran's goal.

This was the 2nd ever meeting between the two sides with Villa now winning both. Before this, the English club beat Bayern in the 1982 European Cup final. Emery has now beaten Bayern with three different teams (PSG, Villarreal and Villa) in the Champions League. Jose Mourinho is the only other manager to do so with three different sides.
