Asia Cup 2018: A look back at classic India-Pak encounters
India and Pakistan have met each other 12 times in the history of Asia Cup. The Men in Blue have sealed 6 wins as against Pakistan's 5. The two nations are set to lock horns, once again, on September 19 in the Asia Cup 2018. With another high octane fixture expected, here we look back at some of the best matches.
Afridi's heroics led Pakistan to a tense win in 2014
India had posted a decent total of 245 on a slow track, with three of their batsmen scoring fifties. Pakistan got off to a solid start before being pegged back to 113/4. Mohammad Hafeez slammed 75, before the situation got tense with India picking wickets. 'Boom Boom' Shahid Afridi then smashed two sixes off R Ashwin in the final over to win the tie.
Yousuf guided Pakistan to win by 44 runs in 2000
Pakistan got off to a tremendous start with Saeed Anwar leading the way. But an inspiring spell by Kumble saw India hitting back hard. Mohammad Yousuf smashed a stunning 100 to help them reach 295/7. In reply, India kept losing wickets consistently. Ajay Jadeja's 93-run knock wasn't enough to seal the tie. Interestingly, that was Jadeja and Azharuddin's last ODI match for India.
Kohli's 183 floored Pakistan in 2012
It was Sachin Tendulkar's final ODI match and it couldn't have ended better. Batting first, Pakistan posted 329. Both Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed struck centuries. In reply, Sachin registered a fifty as he added 133 runs with Virat Kohli for the 2nd wicket. Kohli went on to smash a commanding 183 run knock, hitting 22 fours and a six. India won by 6 wickets.
MSD, Gambhir make merry in 2010
Pakistan posted 267 after half centuries by Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal. Praveen Kumar led the way for India with three wickets. In reply, Indian opener Gautam Gambhir (83) made sure he batted sensibly along with MS Dhoni (56) to keep the side on the hunt. Pakistan spinners picked up wickets, but India managed to pull off a thriller.
