MS Dhoni's importance in the ODI team cannot be ignored
To all those who have been criticizing India's veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni, the player showed on Friday why he is still a crucial member of this ODI side. Dhoni was terrific with his overall play against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2018. The senior player displayed his value for the side as India won their first Super Four battle. Here's more.
When Dhoni helped India get the wicket of Shakib
Dhoni's experience was on display while India got the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib smashed Ravindra Jadeja for two successive boundaries in the 10th over. In the third ball of the over, he swept Jaddu for a four through vacant square-leg region. Dhoni was seen going up to Rohit and instructing something. Next ball, Shakib tried a similar shot and was caught out.
Dhoni's knowledge is vast in ODI cricket
Dhoni's leadership skills is unmatched by most cricket captains of this generation. The legendary former skipper has been successful in winning everything in ODIs. His knowledge of the game, field placements and making decisions, during crucial times, are top class. The gesture to Rohit to put a fielder at square-leg was a decisive one. Can anybody else come in and do the same?
Dhoni had a decent show with the bat
Dhoni was among the runs against Bangladesh and chipped in with a decent knock of 33. He shared a 64-run stand with skipper Rohit and helped India go past the line. To see the best of him, Dhoni needs to be backed at number 4 for quite sometime. He needs to get more opportunities up the order. His timely performance augurs well for India.
Dhoni's calmness is a positive factor
This is a big series for MS, who is still carrying the burden of unnecessary criticism, he received during the tour of England. But not just runs, his work behind the stumps and his on-field guidance to Virat Kohli and Rohit cannot be overlooked. He has always been an influential figure and has now become more of a guiding light for the ODI squad.
