ICC Test Rankings: Ravichandran Ashwin back in Top 10
As India registered a commendable 203-run win in the opening Test against South Africa, it also had an impact on the ICC Test Rankings, especially for the Indians. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick among the players, as his record-breaking wicket-taking haul allowed him to crawl back to the top 10. Indian bowlers gain in Test rankings
As far as the bowlers are concerned, Ashwin grabbed headlines, claiming eight wickets in the opening Test, as he is currently ranked 10th with 770 points, while the table is led by Australia's Pat Cummins (908). Pacer Mohammed Shami, too, has jumped a couple of spots, to 16th, while Ravindra Jadeja is placed second among all-rounders, going past Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh.
Rohit and Mayank Agarwal too leapfrog in rankings
Among the batsmen, Rohit Sharma had a career-defining match with twin centuries, as he has jumped to his career-best ranking of 17th. Along with him, it was Mayank Agarwal, who too played a pivotal role in India's win, scoring a double hundred in the opening innings and has now climbed to the 25th spot. Kohli continues to remain second.
South African batsmen too register some rise
However, the rise was not just limited for the Indians, as a couple of South African batsmen too registered rise in the rankings. Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock rose to the seventh spot after a century in the opening innings, along with Dean Elgar, who too scored a century in the same innings, moved up to the 14th spot.
India maintain top spot in Test rankings
As far as the team ranking goes, India continue to maintain and solidify the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings, with 115 rating points, and are six points clear of second-placed New Zealand. Meanwhile, South Africa are currently on the third spot, with 108 rating points, and would aim for wins in the remaining two Tests to improve their standing.
