Nehra, Solanki to continue with Titans despite ownership overhaul
As per a Cricbuzz report, Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki are set to retain their positions at Gujarat Titans, despite rumors of an impending ownership change. Torrent Pharma, a company based in Ahmedabad, is reportedly on the verge of acquiring a majority stake in the IPL 2022 champions. This potential shift had led to speculation about significant changes within the coaching staff. However, both Nehra and Solanki have secured their roles for the upcoming season.
Contracts renegotiated after Titans's debut season
Nehra is expected to fulfill his three-year contract, which was signed following the Titans's successful debut season. Solanki, who serves as the director of cricket, will also continue in his role. Both Nehra and Solanki had their contracts renegotiated after the team's impressive first season. Numerous reports suggest that tue duo could be among the highest-paid coaching staff in the IPL, with salaries nearing a million dollars or around ₹8 crore.
Titans's performance and coaching staff retention
Under Nehra and Solanki's guidance, the Gujarat Titans nearly defended their title in IPL 2023. However, they were defeated by Chennai Super Kings in the final. In the most recent season (2024), the team struggled and finished eighth after Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians. Despite this setback, the Titans are set to retain Nehra and Solanki for another season.
Other coaching staff members to continue with Titans
The decision to keep Nehra and Solanki also ensures the continuation of other coaching staff members - Aashish Kapoor, Mithun Manhas, Narendra Negi, and UK-based Naeem Amin (all assistant coaches), and Sandeep Raju. However, the Titans will eye a replacement for Gary Kirsten, who operated as the batting coach and mentor before joining Pakistan's white-ball team.
