Coronavirus outbreak: Arsenal to provide over 30,000 free meals
English club Arsenal is all set to provide more than 30,000 to vulnerable people in the local community in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. In addition to this, they will also distribute sanitary and personal hygiene products in order to cater the needs amid outburst. The club also pledged to donate 100,000 pounds towards local organisations. Here is more.
Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers announced support packages
Arsenal further donated 50,000 pounds towards a COVID-19 Crisis Fund. On Thursday, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers announced support packages to help the National Health Service (NHS) in the fight against coronavirus. The deadly COVID-19 has so far claimed over 8,000 lives in UK with a total number of 73,758 cases. Furthermore, the global death count has crossed 1,00,000.
Arsenal foundation teams up with HIS Church
"The Arsenal Foundation has joined forces with HIS Church to deliver 15 tonnes of supplies into Islington. This initiative forms part of our wider community response to COVID-19, which has seen Arsenal in the Community staff volunteer to transport frontline NHS workers," a statement read.
The two clubs donated £100,000 to help fight coronavirus
Last month, Manchester United and Manchester City pledged a combined total of £100,000 towards the crisis. The amount funded food banks in Greater Manchester, with both United and City donating £50,000 each to the Trussell Trust. "We're proud of the role our supporters play in helping food banks and recognise the increased strain likely to be placed on these charities," a joint statement read.
Manchester United continue to pay staff
With the pandemic having stalled the football season, Manchester United announced that all the casual staff and workers will be paid even if the season gets suspended or is played behind closed doors later on. United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward expressed his concerns about the staff's security amid the gloomy period. The Premier League has been postponed until April 30.
