Arsenal seek to name a new manager before World Cup
Premier League club Arsenal hope to appoint a new manager, who will replace Arsene Wenger, ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup in Russia kicks off from June 14 onwards and the Gunners are looking to get someone aboard prior to that. Wenger has two more games left as Arsenal's manager. His side beat Burnley 5-0 over the weekend at home.
Arsenal want a decisive manager
Replacing Wenger at Arsenal would be a tough job for anybody. The Frenchman managed the club for a period of 22 years and won a host of trophies including three Premier League titles. According to reports, it is understood that the board seeks a decisive manager to carry the team forward. Several names have been discussed as they want to be spot-on.
Luis Enrique leads the race?
Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has been touted as the favorite to replace Wenger. His style of play matched the DNA of Barcelona and it is believed that he could fit in the job perfectly. Enrique won nine trophies with Barca including two La Ligas and one Champions League. If he does get the nod, Arsenal would be in good hands.
Others who are in fray
Besides Enrique, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has also been in the discussion list. Former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is also being linked. Ex Arsenal midfielders Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta are also been touted as potential successors.
Interesting time ahead for the Gunners
With Paris Saint-Germain too in search of a new manager, the same big names are also being discussed in the French capital. Former PSG bosses Emery and Blanc are also available but they are not in Arsenal's radar. With the WC continuing up till mid-July, it is important for Arsenal to find someone who can start preparing them from scratch during the WC window.
Will Wenger have a say in selection?
Wenger is likely to play a pivotal role. He is a respected figure and the owners would possibly seek his opinion in appointing a new manager. Manchester United had done the same with Sir Alex Ferguson and chose David Moyes after seeking his blessings.
