Footballer Arda Turan can receive 12 years of jail sentence
Istanbul Basaksehir player Arda Turan, who is currently on loan to the Turkish club from Barcelona, can face a jail term of 12 years after getting involved in a brawl with a singer. It was reported that he got in a fight with Turkish singer Berkay Sahin after the footballer approached Berkay's wife in the nightclub. He has already been fined a huge amount.
What are the exact accusations against Turan?
Arda Turan is accused of approaching the singer Berkay Sahin's wife, telling her, "If I was not married, I wouldn't miss a girl like you". He also allegedly had taken out an unlawfully possessed gun, and a shot was fired from it. After this, Berkay resisted Turan, but the footballer reportedly punched and broke his nose.
Basaksehir is dealing with Turan in strict terms
"The alleged acts committed by our football player during the 3-day leave given to him for national team matches are in no way consistent with the ethical and professional understanding of the club," Basaksehir said in a statement. The club has also fined Turan 2.5 million Turkish lira ($431,000) over the incident. He is currently serving a 16-match ban for physically assaulting a linesman.
Turan and Sahin both looking at sentences
Turkey's national media house has reported that Turan might face a twelve and a half year jail sentence for the charges levied against him. Sahin, on the other hand, may also serve up to two years behind the bars for his involvement in the matter.
