Silverwood feels England may need to manage Archer workload

    What's the story

England cricket team coach Chris Silverwood has stated the side may need to manage Jofra Archer's workload.

This can be achieved by limiting the number of overs he bowls in order to keep the star pacer fresh and fit.

Archer is out with a low-grade stress fracture of his right elbow.

Here are further details on the same.

    Archer bowling

Archer bowled more than any other England bowlers in 2019

Archer made his international debut for England last year in May.

Since his debut, Archer bowled the most overs in international cricket than any of his England team-mates.

Earlier, Joe Root denied Archer has been overbowled early in his international career.

However, coach Silverwood feels that England may need to use Archer in short bursts.

    Solution

Archer could be used for short spells

"Things like [bowling 40 overs in an innings] we have to look at," Silverwood said to Reuters.

"But sometimes, when needs must, you've got to do it."

"We managed Mark Wood through both the Test matches he's played here and he's bowled in short, sharp spells. Would we look to do that now with Jof? Yes, we probably would," he added.

Archer to miss Sri Lanka tour and IPL 2020

England pacer Archer will miss the upcoming Sri Lanka tour and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season.

Earlier, scans revealed a stress fracture in his elbow.

Archer was troubled by problems with his right elbow during England's recently-concluded Test series against South Africa.

He missed the second and third Tests against SA and was ruled out of the fourth Test match-day morning.

    Impressive Archer

Archer was excellent for England in Ashes and CWC 19

Archer has made his presence felt for England since his debut.

He was the third-highest wicket-taker in the 2-2 Ashes series in 2019.

Archer claimed 22 wickets in four Tests at just 20.27.

Prior to that, the pacer had an excellent ICC World Cup 2019.

Archer played a prominent role to help England win the tournament.

He picked up 20 scalps in 11 matches.
