    Anup Kumar to retire after the KWC

    Indian kabaddi team skipper Anup Kumar informed that he would take international retirement after the ongoing Kabaddi World Cup.

    He said that he would keep playing in the Pro Kabaddi League.

    Anup Kumar told media, "Now I look myself as a professional player. I want young players to come up so will retire from the international arena after the World Cup."

    About Anup Kumar

    Anup Kumar was born on 20 November 1983 in a small village in Gurgaon district.

    He played kabaddi in his free time at school and started playing tournaments when he was 17. Anup became a part of Delhi's kabaddi team after he joined CRPF as a constable.

    Kumar was selected for the Indian national team and he played his first international match in 2006.

    Anup's road to success

    After making his debut for the national kabaddi team, Anup Kumar became a regular member of the squad.

    He was part of the Indian team which won gold medals in the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.

    Kumar was appointed as captain of the team in 2016. Soon after, he led the team to victory at the South Asian Games held in February 2016.

    Anup Kumar grew as a player under the captaincy of Rakesh Kumar. For his contribution to the sport, Kumar was honored with Arjuna Award by the Government of India.

    Pro Kabaddi League

    Anup Kumar leads U Mumba from front

    Anup Kumar was signed by the U Mumba team in the Pro Kabaddi League and was made the captain of the team.

    He led the team to the finals of the 2014 season. Kumar was named the 'Most Valuable Player' of the 2014 edition.

    In 2015, U Mumba won the PKL title under his leadership.

    U Mumba were again finalists in the third season.

    Playing in his last world cup this year, Anup Kumar had said that his only dream was to win the cup for India. He said, "My dream is to win the World Cup and I hope it will become true this year."
