    What's the story

Former Indian cricket team skipper MS Dhoni's tryst with records has continued.

The celebrated ODI wicket-keeper batsman became the fifth Indian to surpass the 10,000-run mark in the 50-over format for India.

Dhoni achieved this tally while playing in the first ODI against Australia in Sydney on Saturday.

He took 330 matches to achieve this landmark.

Here is more on the same.

    Feat

Dhoni joins a host of Indian legends

Dhoni joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Sourav Ganguly (11,363), Rahul Dravid (10,889) and Virat Kohli (10,235).

He had earlier completed 10,000 runs in ODIs, but that included a three-match series for the Asia XI side in 2007.

He went into the first ODI against Australia with a tally of 9,999 runs for India.

His ODI average is more than 50.

    Information

Dhoni's brilliance in ODIs gets reflected once again

Most batsmen who have achieved this feat generally come into bat higher up the order. Dhoni is one of the few, who has achieved it, coming lower down the order. He is one of the 13 batsmen in world cricket to have scored 10,000-plus runs.

    ODI cricket

Dhoni has been a celebrated figure in ODI cricket

His 10,000 runs in ODIs exclude the 174 which he scored for Asia XI.

Dhoni had notched scores of 139, 33 and 2 in that series.

The veteran has been a celebrated figure in ODI cricket.

He had big-hitting attributes at the start of his career.

Over the years, MSD became more of a calm finisher with match-winning credentials.

    Information

Dhoni's hasn't been among the runs since a while

Dhoni is currently involved in the three-match series against Australia. Post this, he will head to New Zealand for ODI and T20I series. He hasn't been among the runs since quite some time and this period is crucial for him to get back to form.
