Smith only second to the great Don Bradman
Australian skipper, Steven Smith reached another milestone as he became the second fastest to score 6,000 runs in Test cricket. The right handed batsman reached the landmark in just 111 innings and is only second to the great Don Bradman, who holds the record by scoring 6,000 runs in only 68 innings. Here's the list of records broken by Smith.
Youngest Aussie to the milestone
Smith needed 26 to reach the landmark before the Sydney Test. He achieved the landmark when he took a single off the first ball of the 53rd over, to equal the record held by former West Indies batsman Garry Sobers. At 28 years and 217 days, Smith is the youngest Australian to the milestone, ahead of Ricky Ponting.
Smith's purple patch continues
Smith currently tops the Test batsman ranking charts by a huge margin. India's skipper Virat Kohli is next on the list. Steven Smith has smashed 648 runs in seven innings in the ongoing Ashes so far, which includes two unbeaten centuries and a double hundred, at an astonishing average of 162.
Dominates ICC Test batsmen rankings since 2015
Steven Smith has ended the calendar year as the number one batsman in Test cricket for the third consecutive year and began the new year with a bang. Steven Smith is also second on the highest ever rating points with 947, only Don Bradman is ahead of him with 961 points.
Leg spinner to the world's best batsman
The Australian skipper, who made his Test debut in 2010 against Pakistan at the Lord's, has the highest batting average among the current batsmen. Smith boasts an average of 63 plus and has smashed 23 centuries in the longest format of the game. Not bad for a cricketer who started his career as a leg spinner.
