Anil Kumble reminisces historic 10-wicket haul against Pakistan
What's the story
India's legendary spinner Anil Kumble took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he looked back at his phenomenal 10/74 against Pakistan in 1999.
The historic feat was achieved at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and remains one of the biggest milestones in the history of cricket.
Meanwhile, Kumble shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) marking the 25th anniversary of the feat.
He stated in the video, "25 years since this magical day! Time truly flies"
Historic performance
Kumble's achievement: A rare feat in cricket history
Kumble's 10/74 against Pakistan made him the first Indian and only the second bowler after England's Jim Laker, to take all 10 wickets in a single innings.
This was later matched by New Zealand's Ajaz Patel in December 2021.
In his commemorative video, Kumble thanked everyone for the support he received during that time and emphasized on the challenging circumstances of the match.
Game changer
Kumble's performance turned the tide for India
Despite Pakistan's blistering start with a 101-run opening partnership, Kumble's magical bowling did the trick for India.
He recalled the match in his video stating, "Pakistan were cruising at 100 for no loss, so it was all up to the spinners, the bowlers to do the job."
And that's exactly what he did, turning the match on its head, bringing Pakistan down to 128/6 after their openers got to a flying start with a 101-run stand.
Match-winning feat
Kumble's record-breaking performance led India to victory
Despite a brief fightback from Pakistan, with a 58-run partnership between Saleem Malik and Wasim Akram, Kumble's relentless bowling saw them reduced to 198/9.
He then dismissed Akram, cementing his place in cricket history with innings figures of 10/74 in just 26.3 overs.
This performance not only helped India win the match by 212 runs but also marked their first Test victory over Pakistan in nearly two decades and leveled the series 1-1.
Legacy
Kumble's achievement: A defining moment in cricket history
Kumble's 10-wicket haul is still celebrated as one of the finest individual performances in cricket.
It ended India's victory drought against Pakistan which lasted since the 1979-80 season.
The spinner ended his illustrious career with 619 wickets, making him India's highest wicket-taker and fourth overall.
Meanwhile, his achievement remains a defining moment in cricket history, remembered and admired by fans across generations.
