#ThisDayThatYear: Romine becomes fifth MLB player to play all positions
On this day (September 30) 2017, Detroit Tigers outfielder Andrew Romine became the fifth player in Major League Baseball history to play all nine positions in one game. Romine did this during the Tigers' game against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Additionally, before the game against Minnesota, Romine had played every position other than catcher at some point in the season. Here's more.

The Tigers scored in the second (one run) and fifth inning (two runs), and managed to keep Minnesota scoreless in seven innings, (one run each in the first and seventh innings). No homers were hit in the game, but Alex Presley, Bryan Holaday, and Jeimer Candelario had one RBI each for the Tigers. Zack Granite and Max Kepler managed two RBI for the Twins.
Romine plays all nine positions in one game
As mentioned, Romine became the fifth player to play nine positions in a game during a 3-2 win over the Twins. His evening included catching a line drive in left field, fielding singles in the 1st and 3rd innings, turning a double play at shortstop, catching for four batters in the 7th, pitching in the 8th, and fielding the final out at first base.
Tigers' and Romine's 2017 season stats
The team was 64-98 during the 2017 season, finishing 5th in AL Central. The Tigers did not make it to the playoffs too. In 162 games they managed 187 homers, 699 RBI and 735 runs from 5,556 at-bats. According to Statmuse, in 2017 Romine posted a .233 batting average with 74 hits, 4 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 45 runs scored over 124 games.
