English Premier League: Analyzing results and teams from recent performances
The English Premier League is nearing mid-season, and it is a right time to look back on the performances of the top teams to get a clearer picture of where the tournament is heading. While Manchester City and Liverpool continue their undefeated runs, Chelsea have fallen behind after their draw against Everton and loss to Tottenham. What stories does the table tell us?
Won't stop, can't stop: City onto defending title successfully?
Manchester City are stomping the Premier League like an unstoppable force of nature, dismantling opponents one after the other, and steadily chasing a successful title defense. Out of 14 matches, City have won 12 and drawn two, conceding just six goals so far. They have destroyed the usually held belief that huge goal differences are not possible in the EPL, with their GD at 37 to second-placed Liverpool's 22.
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry: An inspiring Klopp leading Liverpool
Liverpool are writing a tale of hunger and passion this term, with the redoubtable Jurgen Klopp inspiring them to successes. They are playing with the grit and determination which has seen them maintain the second spot on the table after winning 11 matches and drawing three. However, Liverpool have to figure out a way to score more goals which will complement their rigorous performance on the field.
No escape from reality: Sarri's Chelsea beginning to stumble
Chelsea started the season brilliantly, reinvigorated under Maurizio Sarri's style, but now seem to have lost the touch after being unbeaten for long. Hazard's recent injury was surely a contributing factor in the slump, and so was their recent loss to Tottenham which put them behind in the title race. Their match against City on December 8 will have a massive bearing on the league table.
The North London teams have also surpassed expectations
Arsenal have made a brilliant start to the Premier League and remain undefeated after their first two losses against City and Chelsea. If Chelsea lose to City and the Gunners win against United, Emery's team can find themselves in the third position. Tottenham, having stopped Chelsea's unbeaten streak, should have carried their recent form to the Emirates, but lost to Arsenal, and are now fifth in the table.
Call me the tumblin' dice: Manchester United are going down
With never-ending internal strifes in the dressing room, Manchester United are falling behind in the league and are already 16 points away from table-toppers City. It is high time Mourinho consolidates the team and starts showing some positivity in the performances. United are conceding way too many goals this term. with their goal difference being -1. December will test their mettle as they face Arsenal and Liverpool.
