Gameplay review of Fortnite's Halloween Event
Fortnite by Epic is one of the most popular games in the Battle Royale genre, primarily due to constant addition of exciting content. Its recent 'Fortnitemares' event taps into Halloween's spooky festive spirit by making several gameplay and map changes. This has made its Battle Royale slightly more difficult and infinitely more interesting. Read our review of the Halloween event here.
That is not dead which can eternal lie
The Battle Royale, of Fortnite, is seeing the inclusion of zombies for the first time. However, Epic insisted that they are called Cube Monsters. These are AI bots that players have to kill while trying to outlive others. Killing these monsters drop epic rarity loot and shield potions. Killing the gold boss monster yields rarity weapons, but coming across the said monster is uncommon.
Where are the monsters coming from?
The monsters are spawning from portals that were created when Kevin, the Purple Cube, shattered Loot Lake Island and fragments of the cube got scattered across the map. The bigger fragments could be found in previously corrupted areas, and these are the fragments, which are spawning the Cube Monsters. If you plan to go monster hunting, visit these areas for higher chances of monster-sighting.
Go in packing these bad boys
We also tried new weapons of Fortnite. The six-shooter comes in three kinds of rarity and can alternate between fast firing rates and precision shots. The Fiend Hunter Crossbow is here for a limited time and comes in epic rarity. With unlimited ammo and capability of dealing extra damage to Cube Monsters, this weapon should be in your arsenal if you are hunting monsters.
Your suit is your identity of brilliance
The Deadfire Suit is the first in-game, that keeps changing with your gameplay. We were lucky enough to take it for a spin. Every time you kill a Cube Monster or outlive an enemy, the suit changes color to showcase your awesomeness to survivors.
All the right scares in all the right places
The Fortnite map has mist all around and scarecrows with glowing eyes. This might give you the jitters when combined with the anxiety accompanying a Battle Royale match. Many houses have ghosts, carved pumpkins, and creepy spiders on cobwebs as part of their decorations. However, the most jarring change is in Fatal Fields where beds are stuck to the ceiling instead of the ground.
Our final take on the Halloween event
Having played the Halloween event, we love the changes Epic has brought to the map and the gameplay. The 'Fortnitemare' challenges too are proving interesting and with seasonal outfits, gliders, and decorations, we only hope the spooky twist could stay for a longer time.
