Messi, Ronaldo tumble records in La Liga
This weekend was perfect for football fans. Manchester United vs Chelsea and the League cup final, we saw it all. Arsene Wenger's Arsenal were humbled by Manchester City, while in La Liga Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have set new records. However, for PSG, their victory came at a cost. Here is all the action from the weekend's football fixtures.
Manchester City win the League Cup
Manchester City have won their first piece of silverware of the season after beating Arsene Wenger's Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley on Sunday. Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva were on the score-sheet for the blue half of Manchester. This is also Pep Guardiola's first trophy since taking over Manchester City in 2016.
Neymar injury mars PSG victory
Paris Saint Germain extended their Ligue 1 lead to 14 points after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Marseille. Teenager Kylian Mbappe and Uruguayan goal-machine Edinson Cavani scored the goals for the Parisians. However, the victory was marred by the ankle injury of Neymar, who had to stretchered off 10 minutes from time.
Will Neymar be fit for the clash against Real Madrid?
Neymar rolled his right ankle and was in tears before being carried away. This comes as a major blow to PSG, especially since the second leg encounter of PSG and Real Madrid is only 10 days away. Without Neymar, it would be a difficult task for PSG to stop Madrid on March 6. Madrid lead PSG 3-1 after the opening leg at Santiago Bernabeu.
Barcelona equal the record for unbeaten run
Barcelona equalled the record for the longest unbeaten run in a single La Liga season, with a 6-1 thrashing of Girona. This is their best ever run (32 unbeaten games) so far, having managed just 5 draws and a staggering 27 victories. Luis Suarez's hat-trick, a brace from Lionel Messi and a screamer from Philippe Coutinho sealed the victory for Barcelona.
Barcelona are in unstoppable form
Messi breaks another record
It was a record-breaking night for Lionel Messi who put in one of his best shifts of the season so far. 'Little Magician' produced two assists and two goals and is now La Liga's highest ever assist provider with 148 league assists to his name so far. Messi has now scored against 36 different teams, more than any other player in La Liga history.
Real Madrid go third in La Liga
Spanish giants, Real Madrid cruised to yet another routine victory as they trashed Deportivo Alaves 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Goals from 'BBC' sealed the deal for the Los Blancos. Ronaldo's brace ensured he is now the second player ever to score 300 goals in La Liga achieving it in in 285 games.
Salah is turning into one of the best players
Liverpool continued their recent great run of form with a 4-1 thrashing of West Ham at Anfield. Goals from Emre Can, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane saw Jurgen Klopp's side register a comfortable victory. Salah now has 31 goals in 37 games this season and Liverpool have scored 100 goals in the 2017/18 campaign already.
