IPL 2019: MI beat CSK, here are the records broken
Mumbai Indians beat leaders Chennai Super Kings in match number 44 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This was MI's seventh win this season and they took a step closer to play-offs qualification. Batting first, a scintillating fifty from Rohit Sharma helped MI post 155/4. CSK batsmen lost the plot in the chase. Here are the records broken.
Rohit smashes 35th career IPL fifty
Rohit Sharma (67) smashed his maiden fifty in IPL 2019. The opening batsman hit his 35th career IPL fifty as well. Rohit smashed six fours and three sixes. He now has 193 career IPL sixes to his name. Rohit also went past Suresh Raina (191) in terms of career IPL sixes. This was his seventh fifty-plus scores against CSK in IPL.
Malinga extends his tally, Rayudu scripts unwanted records
Lasith Malinga has extended his wicket-taking tally to 166 in the IPL. Ambati Rayudu (0) registered his 12th career IPL duck. He equalled a host of players including the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit. Deepak Chahar (1/46) extended his tally of dot balls in IPL 2019 to 133. He now has 15 scalps this season. Imran Tahir (1/37) picked up his 17th wicket.
Sensational Bumrah shines for MI
Jasprit Bumrah now has 76 wickets in the IPL. He went past Munaf Patel (74) and equalled former CSK and KKR pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji (76).
How did the match pan out?
Mumbai lost Quinton de Kock early on, but the 75-run stand between Rohit and Evin Lewis brought a much needed impetus. After their dismissals, it was Hardik Pandya (23*), who helped MI post a total in excess of 150. In reply, CSK kept losing wickets from the beginning, which in turn hampered their chase at home. MI bowlers were superb on the night.
