English Premier League match-day 24: All records broken
Match-day 24 in the EPL was one of those days when heroes fall from grace, and the minnow, who was never expected to win anything, does so. It was a day when Manchester City lost to Newcastle, Chelsea were dismantled by Bournemouth, while Manchester United and Liverpool drew their matches. Here we bring to you all the records broken on match-day 24.
Defending champions City lost to 14th placed Newcastle United
City's match against Newcastle was Pep Guardiola's 100th EPL game in charge, but it didn't turn out favourably for the Spaniard. Since 2005 September, this was the first time after 22 meetings that Newcastle were able to register a victory against the Cityzens. Aguero scored his goal in the 24th second, the fastest EPL goal of the season. Newcastle won 2-1.
Burnley almost got the better of Manchester United
In their last 20 visits to Old Trafford, Burnley have not managed to register a single victory, having drawn eight and lost 12 matches. Pogba's penalty goal means he has scored one and missed one against Burnley this season. After Jesper Blomqvist, Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Victor Lindelof became the fourth Swedish international to score for United in the EPL. United drew 2-2.
Bournemouth dismantled Chelsea with a superb second-half display
Bournemouth's 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea was their first win against the Blues in any competition since 1988. In Premier League history, Chelsea have now lost by a four-goal margin only for the second time, the first being 1-5 defeat against Liverpool in 1996. Since March 2018, this was the first time Chelsea managed to lose two successive matches in the EPL.
Arsenal managed to squeeze past Cardiff City
Arsenal have only lost one home match this season - their first one against Manchester City. Cardiff City have never managed to be the team ahead at half-time throughout this entire season. Mesut Ozil created his 500th goalscoring chance for a teammate this season. Arsenal won the match 2-1, in which Aubameyang scored his 25th EPL goal for the Gunners in 37 EPL matches.
With a 1-1 draw, Liverpool fail to stretch their lead
This was only the second time in the ongoing season that the Reds did not manage to win at Anfield. They had drawn against Manchester City in October 2018. Liverpool attempted just 10 shots against Leicester in the game - their lowest in the season barring their two meetings with Manchester City where they managed seven shots each. Sadio Mane's opening goal (2:01) was Liverpool's quickest in the EPL since 2016.
Tottenham have kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 win
Spurs have now managed to defeat Watford in the EPL on eight occasions, the third-highest after Arsenal (9) and Manchester United (10). With their 2-1 win over Watford, Tottenham have managed to go 28 matches without a single draw, equalling the record previously set by Bolton. This season, Spurs have scored 13 headed goals, their second-highest since 1999-00 when they managed 16 headed goals.
