Sushil Kumar to lose his CWG spot?
India's Olympic hero, wrestler Sushil Kumar has claimed innocence in the fracas that broke out following his bout against Parveen Rana, post the selection trials for the Commonwealth Games. In a letter to the WFI, he denied his involvement in the fight that happened at KD Jadhav wrestling-stadium on December 29th. However, he might lose his CWG spot due to this brawl. Here's more!
Sushil claims allegations against him are false
"Whatever happened during the trials was unfortunate. I have condemned the incident myself so the allegations made against me are very surprising. Neither me nor any people associated with me are involved in this incident." Sushil was quoted by the Indian Express.
Sushil's could miss out on CWG
Sushil Kumar defeated Parveen Rana 7-3 but the fight continued outside the ring, when Sushil's supporters attacked Rana and his entourage. Rana claims that Sushil personally instigated the violence that broke out. Rana's accusations mean that Sushil's claim that he is innocent may not be enough and the ace wrestler's spot in the CWG games could be in jeopardy.
FIR filed against Olympic champion
The brawl broke out on December 29th and Sushil and his crew have been booked by the Delhi Police under IPC- 341 (wrongful restraint) and IPC- 323 (voluntarily causing hurt). If a charge sheet is filed on Sushil, the WFI disciplinary panel could investigate the incident and Sushil's could lose his spot at the CWG.
Not his first controversy
Sushil Kumar is not new to controversies. In 2016 ahead of the Rio Olympics, he got involved with a bitter battle with Mumbai based wrestler Narsingh Yadav over the participation in the Rio games. In another incident, Sushil was handed the gold medal in the national championships without even contesting the final 3 matches, where he was handed walkovers from his opponents.
