Pakistan Super League 2018 to kick off tomorrow
The third edition of Pakistan's domestic T20 league, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to kick off tomorrow in Dubai. The new edition, which will include an additional sixth team and more international stars, will see its three final matches being played in Pakistan. Here is everything you need to know about the tournament.
PSL: Tournament summary
The inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) was held in 2016 which saw the participation of five teams- Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Lahore Qalandars. The 2017 edition too had the same franchises taking part in it. While Islamabad United won the first edition, Peshwar Zalmi won it in the next season.
UAE as adopted home
UAE has served as Pakistan's adopted home since the 2009 terror attack. All matches of the first season, and all the matches of second season with the exception of the final were held here. The final was successfully held in Lahore's Gaddafi stadium.
The 2018 edition, schedule and new team
2018 PSL season is scheduled to take place from February to March 25. The 2018 tournament will see the addition of Multan Sultans as the new franchise. Multan franchise will be captained by Shoaib Malik, and will see in action some internationally renowned stars like Kieron Pollard, Kumar Sangakkara, Imran Tahir, and Darren Bravo.
Prominent players from existing teams
Islamabad United's squad, led by Misbah-ul-Haq, has players like Andre Russell, Samuel Badree, and JP Duminy. Team Peshawar Zalmi, captained by Darren Sammy, includes Shakib al Hasan, and Dwayne Bravo. The team Quetta Gladiators, led by Sarfraz Ahmed, has the likes of Pietersen, Shane Watson, and Rashid Khan. Afridi, Babar Azam, Imad Wasim and Ravi Bopara will be a part of Karachi Kings.
Brendon McCullum to lead Lahore Qalandars
Lahore Qalandars will be captained by Brendon McCullum. The team includes big names like Umar Akmal, Sunil Narine, and Mustafizur Rahman.
