ICC ODI Rankings: Indian openers Rohit, Dhawan in top 5
India's ODI opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan climbed several spots in the latest ICC Rankings, which was released today. Rohit Sharma, who led India to a record seventh Asia Cup title last week, is now at the second place in the batsmen rankings. His partner Dhawan saw his name jump four places to number five. Rohit has been in phenomenal touch
Rohit scored 317 runs in 5 innings for India in the recently concluded Asia Cup. He smashed a ton and two fifties as well. He overtook England skipper Joe Root in ODI rankings, who is currently at third spot. Rohit has 842 rating points and is behind Virat Kohli (884). It's an interesting phase for India, with three batsmen in top five.
Dhawan's form helps him enter top five
Dhawan witnessed a significant rise in his rankings. This is, primarily, because of his form in 2018, which has been extraordinary especially in ODIs. He scored heavily in South Africa and excelled in the Asia Cup as well where he finished as the top-scorer. He ended with 342 runs and hit two tons. He was adjudged the player of the tournament.
Bumrah retains his spot in bowlers rankings
Meanwhile, India also see two of their players in the top three rankings of bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, who had an excellent Asia Cup, retained his place atop. He was superb at the death and didn't give away anything. He picked 8 wickets from 4 matches. Afghanistan's Rashid Khan held on to his spot behind Bumrah. He picked 10 wickets in the Asia Cup.
In-form Kuldeep rises to number 3
Kuldeep Yadav climbed three spots to rise to number three in the rankings. He picked 10 wickets in the Asia Cup and played a solid hand for India. He has his best tally of 700 points under his belt.
