#GamingBytes: PUBG PC gets new 50 vs 50 playable mode
PUBG PC is making the Battle Royale experience even more intense with the introduction of a 50 vs 50 player mode. Notably, competitor Fortnite has a similar mode, which appears periodically as a limited time event. Interestingly, PUBG has kept the total player count to 100 even in this mode. The new mode kicked off on 7:30 AM IST, October 19. Here's more.
Gamers, you and whose army?
The game format will still hinge on the last group or person standing. However, players can now fight with an army by their side. The new mode titled, Platoon Mode has 5 groups of 10 players each. Notably, this mode will support both first and third-person perspectives. Platoon-mates will be identifiable by a blue circle over their heads, and thankfully friendly fire is disabled.
A few problems with too many people
While big teams means more fun, there are drawbacks of a big team. For starters, in-game voice communication will be nearly impossible with 10 players jabbering. Thankfully, friendly fire is disabled, else with too many team-mates, some players inevitably get caught in crossfires during firefights.
How will gameplay be different in the Platoon Mode
Players will have an army at their back and thus the size and scopes of the teams will be different. Apart from that PUBG is keeping the gameplay the same as its normal 'Battle Royale'. Players still have to land and loot smart, stay within the playzone and avoid the red zones. Victory will still hinge on a combination of survival and skilled shooting.
Failures are building blocks to success
PUBG had previously run a 50v50 mode in May. The mode was titled 'Desert Knights' but crashes and server issues forced developers to discontinue it within 24 hours. Hopefully, they have learned from their mistakes and Platoon Mode will be a resounding success.
