What to expect from the Pro Kabaddi League auction?
The auction for 2018 Pro Kabaddi League will be held on May 30 and 31 in Mumbai. 422 players will go under the hammer during the two day period and a total of 12 franchises will look to snap up these players. Each franchise has a total purse of Rs. 4 crore. Here is all that you need to know about Pro Kabaddi auction.
422 players to go under the hammer
The 422 players have been divided into 3 categories. The first category will have 277 regular players. The second category will consist of overseas players. This year, we will see 58 overseas players taking part in the auction. The other 87 players will be part of the Future Kabaddi Heroes Programme, a nationwide talent scouting programme.
Each squad to have a minimum of 18 players
A Pro Kabaddi franchise should have a minimum of 18 players and can have up to 25 players. The squad should also include 3 players from the Future Kabaddi Heroes Programme and two to four international players.
Final Bid Match will make the auctions exciting
Similar to IPL auction, franchises are allowed to retain players using Elite Retained Players program. 9 teams have already retained players and the rest of 3 franchises have opted to build a team from scratch. Similar to the 'Right to Match' card in the IPL auction, Pro Kabaddi has 'Final Bid Match' which can be used for up to 2 ex-players.
Base price divided into five categories
Base fees of players have been divided into five categories. The top category A will be Rs. 20 lakh, category B will be Rs. 12 lakh, category C will be Rs. 8 lakh and the fourth category D is of Rs. 5 lakh. The 5th and final category will be for the New Young Players, who will have fixed pay of Rs. 6.6 lakh.
