Rahane, Suryakumar top buys at T20 Mumbai League
India's vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and Mumbai team-mate Suryakumar Yadav were the biggest buys at the T20 Mumbai League auction after the duo fetched a bid of Rs. 7 lakh each. Rahane was bought by Mumbai North while Suryakumar Yadav was picked by Mumbai North East as the icon players for the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Rohit fetches Rs. 6 lakh despite unavailability
India's limited overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma was bought for Rs. 6 lakh as the icon player of Mumbai North West. However, Rohit is set to miss the tournament as he will be on national duty captaining India in the Nidahas Tri-series in Sri Lanka, as regular skipper Kohli has been rested. The player auctions were held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer is the icon player of Mumbai North Central
Mumbai lad and Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer fetched a bid of Rs. 5 lakh and was bought as the icon player of Mumbai North Central. Just like Rahane, Shreyas Iyer is not a part of the Indian side which will play the T20 tri-series in Sri Lanka from March 6-18.
Prithvi Shaw also among the big names
Veteran all-rounder Abhishek Nayar was bought by Mumbai South as their icon player for Rs. 4 lakh. Middle-order batsman Siddhesh Lad was sold to Mumbai South Central for Rs. 4 lakh as their icon player. Under-19 World Cup winning captain Prithvi Shaw was snapped up by Mumbai North for Rs. 2.80 lakh. Dhawal Kulkarni was bought by Mumbai North East for Rs. 1.50 lakh.
Mumbai braces for T20 Mumbai League
Six teams will take part in the inaugural T20 Mumbai League which will be held from March 11. The matches will be played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The inaugural edition of the league will conclude on March 21.
