All you need to know about Fortnite's update
Epic's Fortnite has received its most significant update this season. The patch v5.40 introduces a new High Stakes event, the Getaway mode, and the new grapple gun. Coupled with the host of weapon changes, this update promises to make the gameplay more versatile. With the season almost drawing to an end, things are getting really interesting. Read all about the update here.
Sometimes you need to make a fast getaway
Fortnite introduces its limited time mode called the Getaway. Players have to get a jewel from a safe, at the edge of the first storm circle, and make it to one of the four getaway vans. Safe drops and getaway vans will be always visible on the map. However, they will be competing against all the other players, trying to get the Victory Royale.
The jewels and the getaway van
There will always be four jewels in the game. Further, we would see four vans in the game, three arriving early and one at the end. Since vans float midair, players have to build structures to interact with them, and complete the getaway.
Tools of the trade for the Victory Royale
Players carrying the jewel will get shields and potions but they will be slow. With enemies out for blood, weapons are important. Thus the game introduces 'Pursuit' supply drops. 12 boxes will be available at the start and will have long-range weapons. Notably, all weapons are Rare or higher. The only way to collect grapplers, in this mode, is via 'Pursuit' boxes.
No shortcuts to the top
In the limited time mode, the developers have wisely removed rifts, rifts-to-go, and Launchpads. This makes it difficult for players to get to the getaway vans as they have to traverse the Fortnite map, while keeping an eye out for enemies.
Grapple away to victory
The grappler is a new item that has been introduced. It allows players to move quickly. It gets attached to objects and pulls the player in that direction. They are available at vending machines, supply drops, supply llamas and treasure chests. The grappler has 15 charges and it is dropped when depleted. Interestingly, players can chain shots together to travel larger distances.
There is a storm coming, and its worse
The changes in storm circle will really cramp the style of campers. Some players build high structures and heal themselves when they are shot down by others. However, the new storm circle will destroy man-made structures, thus players need to keep moving. Further, shifting storm circle means players will not know which storms are strong enough to destroy structures.
Other changes to the game
Weapon categories have been shuffled around, but not many changes have been made to the weapons. A notable exception is the increase in accuracy of the first two shots of Burst Rifles. Players can also carry an extra shield potion making healing and survival easier.
What this update means for the game?
The main game does not see many changes. Players can get a better idea about the weapons they wield, which should make the 'Battle Royale' more interesting. The most interesting changes have come in 'Getaway'. This week promises great gameplay. The long-ranged weapons will mean more players trying to loot jewels from enemies than from safes. Fortnite is gearing up for some serious action!
