Kagiso Rabada named South African Cricketer of the Year
Proteas fast bowling sensation Kagiso Rabada was named 'South African Cricketer of the Year' by their board. The Cricket South Africa awards were held on Saturday evening. The is the second time that the 23-year-old speedster has been conferred with this award. He had earlier won it in 2016. Legend AB de Villiers was named 'T20 International Player of the Year'.
Rabada joins an elite list of cricketers
With this award, Kagiso Rabada has joined the list of elite South African cricketers who have won the award twice. Jacques Kallis (2004 and 2011), Makhaya Ntini (2005 and 2006), Hashim Amla (2010 and 2013) and AB de Villiers (2014 and 2015) are the other SA players, who took the award home more than once. Still only 23, Rabada can win plenty more.
Speedster won 6 trophies
Along with the 'South African Cricketer of the Year' gong, Rabada was also named 'Test Cricketer of the Year' and 'ODI Cricketer of the Year'. He was also honored as 'South Africa's Players' Player of the Year' and 'South Africa's Fans' Player of the Year'. Kagiso Rabada has now 6 awards under his belt.
David Warner's dismissal named 'Delivery of the Year'
Rabada also won the 'Delivery of the Year' for dismissing David Warner in the third Test match at the Newlands Cricket Stadium in Cape Town in March this year.
Rabada is currently the number one bowler in Tests
Rabada has had a fantastic season. He even scaled the number one world ranking in Test cricket, reaching the 900-point barrier and is currently the top wicket-taker of 2018. Rabada has 38 scalps at an average of 19.65 this season. The 23-year-old is ranked 7 in ODIs and was named in ICC Test XI for the 2017 calendar year.
ABD named South Africa's T20 player of the Year
Among the other winners were AB de Villiers ('South Africa's T20 International Player of the Year') and Aiden Markram ('South Africa's International Newcomer of the Year'). Markram scored 1,000 runs in his debut Test season averaging 55.55. David Miller won the 'Always Original Award' for his record T20I century against Bangladesh.
