Alex Carey shines versus England, slams his 9th ODI half-century
Australia's Alex Carey hit a splendid 67-ball 74 in the 2nd ODI against England at Headingley, Leeds on Saturday. Australia were 221/9 after the dismissal of Adam Zampa. However, Carey's powerful knock helped the Aussies manage 270/10 and set England a target of 271. Carey had come to bat when Australia were 145/4. It was a brilliant effort from the southpaw. Carey helps Australia with a sound effort
Carey walked in following Marnus Labuschagne's dismissal. Australia lost two more wickets to be pegged back at 161/6. However, Carey and Aaron Hardie (23) added 55 runs (7th wicket). Australia were in danger of scoring 230 or less but Carey had other ideas. He found the desired boundaries and added 49 runs for the 10th wicket alongside Josh Hazlewood (4*). Olly Stone dismissed Carey.
Carey completes 1,000 runs in away ODI matches
Carey's 74 was laced with eight fours and three sixes. He has raced to 1,888 runs in ODIs at 33.71. He slammed his 9th ODI fifty (100s: 1). As per ESPNcricinfo, Carey owns 420 runs versus England at 42 (100s: 1, 50s: 1). Carey has now surpassed 1,000 runs in away matches (home of opposition). He owns 1,053 runs at 30.97.
3,500 runs in List A cricket
Carey also went past 3,500 runs in List A cricket. In 122 matches, he owns 3,525 runs at 34-plus average. He clobbered his 21st fifty and owns three tons as well.
