'Cricket is my PR' - Rahane targets Team India return
What's the story
Ajinkya Rahane, one of the biggest names in Indian cricket, is targeting a return to the Indian Test team.
Although he understands the importance of being in the limelight in the current era of sports, he still prefers his cricketing skills to do the talking.
"I was always shy, now I have opened up. My focus has been to play cricket and go home," Rahane told The Indian Express.
Selection disappointment
Rahane's response to non-selection post WTC 2023
Rahane had earlier expressed disappointment over not being picked for the South Africa tour after the WTC 2023 final.
Despite a stellar performance in the final, he was ignored for the next series.
"I'm not the person who will go and ask why I'm being dropped," Rahane said, stressing that he didn't want to lobby for his place in the team.
Media strategy
Rahane's approach to media visibility in cricket
While Rahane admitted that the focus on media has increased in cricket, he is still sticking to his simple ways.
"Now I am told I need to speak up, talk about my hard work. People say you need to be in the news," he said.
However, Rahane clarified he doesn't have a PR team and his cricket is his only PR.
Career focus
Rahane's focus on domestic cricket and future plans
Despite being recently dropped from the Indian Test squad, Rahane continues to be focused on his domestic cricket performances.
"There is still fire and passion in me. I'm playing Ranji Trophy at the moment, trying to give my all to the Mumbai team. The goal is clear to make another comeback," he said.
Notably, Rahane will play for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025.
