Irani Cup: Ajinkya Rahane misses his 41st First-Class century
Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane missed out on his 41st century in First-Class cricket. The Indian batter was dismissed for a resilient 97on Day 2 of the Irani Cup match against Rest of India in Lucknow. Rahane rescued Mumbai along with Shreyas Iyer after they were 37/3, with ROI inviting them to bat. Rahane later joined forces with Sarfaraz Khan.
A solid knock from Rahane
Rahane came to the middle after Mumbai were down to 6/2 early on. They had lost Prithvi Shaw and Hardik Tamore on a deck tinged with grass. Rahane then steadied the ship alongside Iyer, who scored an 84-ball 57. They took Mumbai past 130 before Rahane added another century stand with Sarfaraz. He was eventually dismissed for 97(234), smashing 7 fours and a six.
Over 13,500 runs in FC cricket
Rahane has raced to his 58th fifty in First-Class cricket. He has over 13,500 runs from 92 FC matches at an average of more than 45. His tally also includes 40 centuries. Rahane, who was once India's mainstay number five batter in Tests, owns 5,077 runs at 38.46 in the format. He has 12 Test tons in 85 matches.
