Prominent New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel has come out in support of Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The support comes amid growing speculation of their retirements after India's recent Champions Trophy win.
Patel, who is currently in India with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's delegation, highlighted the immense contribution of both players to the game and said their decisions should be respected.
"I think they can decide when they want to stop playing," Patel told IANS.

Further, Patel lauded Sharma and Kohli as "greats of the game," asserting their right to decide when to retire.
He said, "They are the greats of the game. They're well within their rights to go for as long as they want."
The New Zealand spinner further commended their exceptional records and skills, acknowledging the challenge they pose to bowlers.
"I know as a bowler it's always worrying to be able to bowl to either of them," he further lauded them.

Kohli's stellar performance in Champions Trophy
During India's successful title defense in Dubai, Kohli played a key role, scoring 218 runs in five matches at an average of 54.50.
His consistent performances were key to India's third Champions Trophy title win.
Meanwhile, Rohit cemented his reputation as a captain by becoming the second most successful Indian skipper in terms of ICC titles under his leadership.
The skipper scored 180 runs in five innings at 36.

Patel also emphasized the significance of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for New Zealand cricketers.
He called IPL a "massive tournament around the world" and appreciated its structure and management.
The 2025 edition of IPL will start from March 22.
Patel said it allows New Zealand players to challenge themselves and get exposure on a global platform.
"IPL is a massive tournament around the world and it's a highly lauded tournament, so it's always exciting to watch," he stated.

Kohli recently crossed the 14,000 ODI runs mark during the Champions Trophy. He now owns 14,181 runs across 302 ODIs at an average of 57.88.
He also owns a strike rate of 93.34, including 51 centuries and 74 half-centuries. Kohli's highest ODI score is 183.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the skipper owns 11,168 runs across 273 ODIs at an average of 48.76,
His strike in ODIs reads 92.80, including 32 hundreds and 58 half-centuries and a high score of 264.
