BCCI Apex Council meeting: Jay Shah's successor not on agenda
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council is set to convene on September 25. Contrary to previous assumptions, the discussion about a new secretary to succeed Jay Shah is not included in the meeting's agenda. This development makes way as the council prepares for its 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to take place in Bengaluru.
Shah to continue as BCCI Secretary until ICC chairmanship
It is understood that Shah, who was unanimously elected as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, will continue his role as the BCCI secretary during the upcoming AGM. His new position at the ICC is set to begin from December 1. However, the process of nominating his successor is not among the eight items listed for discussion in the Apex Council's meeting agenda.
BCCI to address payment dispute with BYJU'S
The Apex Council meeting will also address the BCCI's ongoing payment dispute with its former title sponsor, BYJU'S. The edtech firm terminated its sponsorship agreement with the cricket board in March last year. The controversy stems from unpaid dues for the period between October 2022 and March 2023, despite payments being made until September 2022 under a jersey sponsorship deal first signed in March 2019.
Inauguration of new National Cricket Academy on agenda
The Apex Council's agenda also includes discussions about the inauguration of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA), located in Bengaluru. The NCA has been operating from the M Chinnaswamy stadium premises for over two decades. Other items on the agenda include approval for renovation work at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and progress report on North East development project.
