IPL 2019 not to be telecast in Pakistan: Know why
Pakistan will not be broadcasting the upcoming 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting March 23 in Chennai. Pakistan's Information and Broadcasting minister Fawad Chaudhry confirmed. This has come to fore after India had earlier suspended the broadcast of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). DSport, the official broadcaster of PSL matches in India, stopped the coverage.
PSL: IMG Reliance had stopped producing television coverage
The decision made by India was in relation to the Pulwama terror attacks that left over 40 CRPF personnel dead in Jammu and Kashmir. Besides DSport, Indian company IMG Reliance had also decided not to produce TV coverage of the PSL worldwide. This had forced the Pakistan-based T20 league to search for a new production company midway into the tourney.
'We can't tolerate that IPL is shown in Pakistan'
According to ARY News, Fawad Chaudhry said, "During the PSL, the way the Indian companies and the government treated Pakistan cricket after that, we can't tolerate that IPL is shown in Pakistan. I feel if IPL is not shown in Pakistan, it will be a loss for IPL and Indian cricket. We are a cricketing superpower in international cricket."
Pulwama attack: What had happened in February?
In February 2019, over 40 CRPF personnel were killed in a terror attack while several others were still battling for their lives. The incident was the deadliest terrorist strike in almost two decades in J&K. The CRPF convoy at Awantipora town in the Pulwama district, saw an explosive-laden SUV ram into one of the buses. Pakistan-based terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack.
How did the BCCI respond?
The BCCI had urged ICC to boycott nations that harbor terrorism. There were talks about India boycotting Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2019. The ICC went on to assure that security arrangements will be in full swing and refuted India's advancements. The Indian cricket team had also put on camouflaged caps in the third ODI against Australia earlier this month.
Chaudhry hits out at BCCI over camouflage military caps
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) slammed the BCCI for using politics in cricket after the players wore camouflage military caps. And now Chaudhry once again highlighted the same. "We tried to keep politics and cricket apart but then the Indian cricket team played matches wearing army caps against Australia and there was no action taken against it," he said.
