Afghanistan Test is happening at the wrong time: Vengsarkar
Former India player Dilip Vengsarkar has stated that the one-off Test against Afghanistan starting June 14, has been wrongly scheduled by the BCCI. According to reports, the former selector stated that since India are up against England in August, it would have been wise to concentrate on that tour. He feels India cannot take this Test lightly given the Afghans are making their debut.
Vengsarkar feels Pujara's presence in squad makes no sense
Cheteshwar Pujara is currently playing County cricket for Yorkshire in his bid to get accustomed to the conditions in England. With the Test against Afghanistan in June, Pujara will have to fly back and play the match. Vengsarkar lamented the same saying it makes no sense for him to come and play the Test, given he could have used this time back in England.
Pujara, Ishant cases highlights BCCI got it wrong
With several players worth a shout for a place in the Indian Test side, Pujara and pacer Ishant Sharma could have been allowed to continue playing County. Since they aren't playing limited-over series, an extended run till the completion of ODI series would have made sense. Pujara hasn't been very consistent at Yorkshire and more innings would have done him world of good.
Vengsarkar praises Kohli's decision to play for Surrey
Virat Kohli will be flying to England straight after IPL 2018 to gain some game time in the conditions there. India play five Tests against England starting August 1, and the skipper will represent Surrey for a brief stint. Vengsarkar praised Kohli's decision stating it will help him acclimatize to the conditions. Virat did not enjoy a good run in the last England tour.
Can India do well in England?
Vengsarkar feels India have a real chance this time to do well in England and win there. He praised the current crop of Indian pacers and said the options will help the side. He stated that this, in turn, is a good sign for India.
