Afghan equals Dhoni's record of most T20I wins as captain
Another superb spell by leg-spinner Rashid Khan helped Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe in the 2nd T20I. With this, Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan equaled MS Dhoni's long-standing record of most wins in T20 Internationals. The former broke a number of other records as well, as Afghanistan claimed a one-sided victory. They have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Here is more.
Afghan matches the feat of Dhoni
For years, Dhoni has been the most successful T20I captain in terms of wins. He led Team India in 72 T20Is, winning 41 and losing 28 (Tie/Super Over: 1, NR: 2). Afghan has matched this record by claiming his 41st T20I win as captain. Interestingly, Afghanistan have won 41 out of 51 T20Is under him (win percentage: 81.37).
The distinction of leading a side in over 50 T20Is
Aghan is one of the only four captains to have led a side in 50 or more T20Is. He is only behind Dhoni (72), Eoin Morgan (58) and William Porterfield (56) on the elite tally. Notably, he has the least defeats as captain among them.
A look at Afghan's T20I career
Besides his leadership skills, Afghan has been an experienced middle-order batsman for Afghanistan across formats. He is the third-highest run-scorer from the nation in T20Is, having scored 1,317 runs from 71 games at an average of 21.95. He also owns four 50+ scores in the format. His career-best score of 62 came against Sri Lanka at the World T20 2016.
Afghanistan defeat Zimbabwe, lead series 2-0
Afghanistan have made a noteworthy turnaround since losing the first Test. They won the second Test before defeating Zimbabwe in two T20Is. In the 2nd T20I, Afghanistan gave Zimbabwe a 193-run target, riding on knocks of Usman Ghani (49) and Karim Janat (53). Mohammad Nabi too fired a 15-ball 40. Nabi and Rashid took five wickets between them as Zimbabwe finished on 148/10.
