Barcelona will be signing Paris Saint-Germain's Adrien Rabiot in summer
With Adrien Rabiot entering the final six months of his contract with PSG, speculations about his transfer have come true. It was believed Barcelona would be his go-to destination, and it has now been revealed that the French midfielder has entered into a deal with Barcelona for a 5-year-long contract. Rabiot will be joining the Catalan giants ahead of the 2019-20 season.
What is the financial agreement between Barca and Rabiot?
Rabiot has been offered a weekly salary of around £170,000 for a period of five years by Barcelona. This will be a major improvement over the £53,710 he receives at PSG. Moreover, Rabiot will be given a sum of £9 million as a signing fee.
Rabiot's attributes might make him a great catch for Barcelona
Rabiot is a central midfielder with amazing ball control and an impressive passing rate, and can thus contribute to Barcelona's attack if he manages to pass the ball forward to players like Messi and Dembele. Moreover, he also boasts of defensive skills, and has registered tackles and interceptions, thus making him an all-round midfielder. It shall be interesting to see him performing with Barcelona.
Barcelona were earlier accused of an underhand deal with Rabiot
Earlier, PSG's Sporting Director Antero Henrique had spoken out strongly against Barcelona after Adrien Rabiot refused to renew his contract with the French champions. He alleged that Barcelona, whom Rabiot is almost certain to join next season, had made a deal with the French footballer earlier before sending an offer PSG's way. Refusing to sign a new deal resulted in Rabiot being benched indefinitely.
What were Henrique grievances against Barcelona?
Barcelona had reportedly offered PSG a surprisingly low sum of money for the player's transfer in summer. Henrique believed the miserly offer was just a gimmick, and that Barca and Rabiot already had a deal in place wherein he would join them on a Bosman free transfer if he refused to renew his contract, which will be coming to an end this season.
Barcelona had denied all charges of any wrongdoing
After the accusations, Barcelona came out with a statement which stated that they did contact PSG last August for Rabiot, but never had any communication with the player himself. "Barcelona always want to work with the highest level of transparency with PSG and any other club. Barcelona deny the existence of any type of agreement with PSG player Adrien Rabiot", stated the Catalans.
