Abhishek Sharma, born on September 4, 2000, is considered one of the bright prospects for Indian cricket. An all-rounder who can hit hard down the order and has the knack to pitch the ball at the right spots, Sharma began his career in List A cricket for Punjab in 2017. Later, he made his debut in first-class cricket for Punjab in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy edition the same year. His first tryst with fame was in 2016 when he led the U-19 team of India to Youth Asia Cup success. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in that tournament. He also captained the Indian Youth side to their victory against England in 2017. Later, in 2018, in the U-19 World Cup, he contributed with both bat and ball. His performances in the U-19 World Cup, 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the 2017-2018 season found him a suitor in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions and was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 55 lakh. On his IPL debut, he scored 46 runs from 19 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore. As of 2021, he represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL.
