Abhinav Bindra opens up about his neurological medical condition
Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra opened up about a serious neurological-medical condition he suffered from in 2014. He said that the after-effects of the disease left his hands in tremors. In a sport which requires stability, his condition made it difficult for him to perform. Despite that, Bindra won a gold-medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the same year in which his condition was diagnosed.
Abhinav Bindra's shooting career
A professional shooter, Abhinav Bindra is the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics. He had won gold in 10m air rifle event at 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has also won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014. Bindra was honoured with Arjuna Award (2000), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2009).

Before participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Abhinav Bindra announced that he would soon retire from the sport. At Rio, he finished fourth in the 10m air rifle event.
I was not good enough for the third place: Bindra
Abhinav Bindra, who finished fourth at his last Olympics in 2016, did not give an excuse of the medical condition for his failure at Rio Olympics. He said, "I did not end up fourth because of the neurological condition and not because of a tremor in my hand. I ended up fourth because I was not good enough for third place."
What is Epilepsy?
Abhinav Bindra suffered from Epilepsy, a disorder which is mainly known for its recurrent seizures. The epileptic seizures may occur for a brief or long period and result in vigorous shaking.
