Pakistan cricketers are preparing for Olympics or WWE: Aamir Sohail
Former Pakistan cricketer Aamir Sohail has taken a dig on the current team management and coach Misbah-ul-Haq. With the new regime focusing more on the fitness of cricketers, Sohail criticized the move and said the players are only playing cricket and not Olympics or WWE wrestling. Pakistan endured a 0-3 loss against Sri Lanka in the T20Is recently. Here's more.
What's the story behind the fitness concern?
Since Misbah-ul-Haq was appointed the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, the major focus has been on fitness. Misbah came in and asked players to change their diets. He banned biryani and other fatty red-meat food items from the players' plate. When it comes to fitness levels, Pakistani players are way behind the rest. That saw this move implemented by Misbah.
Aamir Sohail taunts the management
"In Pakistan cricket these days we are concentrating more on fitness and it appears that we are preparing our players less for cricket and more for the Olympics or WWE Wrestling," he was quoted as saying to a Pakistani journalist.
Bizarre call made by Sohail: Our take
Sohail has completely lost the plot here. Pakistan have been abysmal with their fielding and fitness for a while now. Also, the recently-concluded T20I series saw the Pakistani fielders being poor on the field. Several sitters were dropped and the level of fielding was poor. Misbah has at least started something positive for the players to focus on. Sohail should leave Pakistan cricket alone.
Pakistan have plenty of questions to answer after Lanka show
Misbah enjoyed a good start to his coaching stint. Pakistan won the ODIs by a 2-0 margin. However, the number one T20I side in the world was pummelled 3-0 by the Lankans. There are many questions that needs to be answered. Pakistan were awful especially with the bat and on the field as well. The takeaways from the series also saw Pakistan being indecisive.
