Africa's richest man shows interest in buying Arsenal
African businessman Aliko Dangote has once again expressed his desire to buy England's premier football club Arsenal. A huge Gunners fan himself, the 60-year-old Nigerian has expressed his wish multiple times in the past, even though Arsenal's current major stakeholder, Stan Kroenke, has never shown any interest in selling the billion dollar club.
Who owns the $2 billion club?
American sports tycoon Stan Kroenke is the largest stake-holder in the English club, with 67 per cent of shares, while Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has 30 per cent holding.
Removing Arsene Wenger would be Dangote's first decision
Dangote said that if he buys the club, the first thing he would do is to change the coach. He said, "The first thing I would change is the coach. He (Arsene Wenger) has done a good job, but someone else should also try his luck." Wenger has been the manager of Arsenal since 1996, and has guided the club to several championship victories.
"Can convince owners to sell": Danghote promises an offer soon
Dangote, whose net worth is estimated at $12.3 billion as of mid-August, said the owners would be willing to sell if they get the right offer. He said, "It's a great team, well-run. It could be run better, so I'll be there." Aliko says he'll make an offer to Arsenal owners once the construction of a Lagos refinery he's investing in is complete.
