During the season, Mumbai Indians pacer Akash Madhwal became the first-ever player to take a fifer in IPL playoffs. The Rohit Sharma-led side outclassed Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator, with Akash taking a five-wicket haul. He conceded just five runs in 3.3 overs. Akash now holds the record for registering the best bowling figures in IPL playoffs.
Mohit Sharma: Second-fastest fifer in IPL history
In the very next match, GT's Mohit Sharma emulated Madhwal by taking a fifer against MI in Qualifier 2. Mohit, who recorded figures worth 5/10, completed his five-wicket haul against MI in 2.2 overs, the second-fastest in the competition's history. Kolkata Knight Riders' Andre Russell completed a fifer in only two overs in IPL 2021 (5/15 vs MI).
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Third bowler with multiple IPL fifers
Veteran Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was at his absolute best for Sunrisers Hyderabad against GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Bhuvneshwar, who bowled the final over, completed his five-wicket haul. He conceded just 30 runs in four overs. Bhuvneshwar became the third bowler in IPL history to take two fifers, after Jaydev Unadkat and James Faulkner.
Mohammed Shami: Second-best Powerplay figures in IPL history
GT restricted Delhi Capitals to 130/8 in Match 44 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. A resounding spell by Shami reduced the Capitals to 23/5 in five overs. The Indian seamer took four wickets to register the second-best Powerplay bowling figures in IPL history. Shami was the pick of GT's bowlers in the match. He took four wickets for 11 runs in four overs.
Mark Wood: LSG's maiden IPL fifer
During the season, England bowler Mark Wood claimed the maiden five-wicket haul for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. Wood managed a heroic 5/14 from his four overs, helping LSG beat DC by 50 runs in Match 3. He also claimed his maiden fifer in T20 cricket. As per ESPNcricinfo, Wood became the 27th bowler in IPL history to claim a five-wicket haul.
