Golf: SSP Chawrasia wins Indian Open for the second time
Indian golfer Shiv Chawrasia successfully defended his Indian Open title to win the tournament for the second consecutive time. It was Chawrasia's fourth win on the European tour and sixth international victory. Having finished 10 par-278, he was seven stokes ahead of Malaysia's Gavin Green, who stood second. He is the second Indian golfer to win the title twice consecutively.
SSP Chawrasia - the golfer
Shiv Shankar Prasad Chawrasia is an Indian golfer born on 15 May 1978. A son of greenskeeper at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata, Chawrasia picked up golfing at the age of 10. He turned professional in the year 1997, before which he worked as a caddie for a few years. Chawrasia played his first tournament in Patna, finishing at 37th position.
First professional win for Chawrasia
Chawrasia started winning his Indian tour titles from 2001. He first won Singhania Open in 2001 and then went on to win again in 2005 and 2006. He also won HT Pro Golf (2003), Tata Open (2003, 2005, 2006), Hero Honda Open(2003) and NGC Open(2003).
Asian and European Tour wins
In the year 2008, SSP Chawrasia won the Emaar-MGF Indian Masters title. He later went on to win the Avantha Masters in 2011 and Panasonic Open India in 2014. Chawrasia won two titles in 2016. His Hero Indian Open title came in March 2016 and Resorts World Manila Masters in November. He also represented India at the 2016 Rio Olympics, along with Anirban Lahiri.

After winning the $291,660 tournament, SSP Chawrasia said, "It is such a tough course, I think I got lucky this week. I'm winning back-to-back so I'm really very happy."
