Sri Lanka batter Kamindu Mendis continues to break records in Test cricket. His first 13 Test innings has already seen five centuries. Mendis scored his fifth ton in the ongoing 2nd Test against New Zealand in Galle. He recorded a fifty-plus score in his eighth back-to-back Test. Kamindu Mendis: 8
Mendis now has 50+ scores in most consecutive Tests for a player from debut. He has at least one fifty-plus score in each of his first eight Tests. The Lankan batter has two tons each against Bangladesh and New Zealand as well as one against England. In Galle, Mendis raced 900 Test runs. He has an average of over 80 in the format.
Saud Shakeel: 7
Mendis surpassed Pakistan's Saud Shakeel, whose Test career took off in a similar manner. Shakeel registered fifty-plus scores in his first seven Tests. His tally included a ton (125* against New Zealand in Karachi) and a double-century (208* against Sri Lanka in Galle). As of now, Shakeel has 1,126 runs from 12 Tests at an average of 56.30.
Sutcliffe, Ahmed, Butcher, Gavaskar: 6
The likes of Bert Sutcliffe, Saeed Ahmed, Basil Butcher, and Sunil Gavaskar follow Shakeel and Mendis on this list. They have attained this feat in six Tests. Notably, Gavaskar hammered a record 774 runs in his debut Test series, against the West Indies in 1970/71.
