Busted: 5 WWE myths put to rest
A scripted sports entertainment like WWE thrives on creating dramatic story lines and acting them out to perfection. Over the years, several narratives created to book matches have gone on to create myths and legends which are basically a figment of a writer's imagination. Here are 5 such WWE myths which we used to believe but are not true.
The hardcore championship belt is not a recycled product
In 1989, Hulk Hogan's WWF Championship belt was stolen by Mr. Perfect, who later that night went ahead and smashed it on camera. Majority of WWE fans believed that this smashed belt was recycled and later used as the Hardcore Championship title so that no one forgets the incident. However, the Hardcore Championship's broken belt is definitely not the one smashed by Mr. Perfect.
Origins of Hulk Hogan's black eye
In WrestleMania 9, Hulk Hogan made an appearance with a black eye. It came as a shock to WWE fans to see the biggest star of the franchise in such a condition at WrestleMania. The story line was that it was done by the stable Money Inc. while others believed it was done by the Ultimate Warrior. However, both versions are untrue.
'Blading' is a real thing in professional wrestling
Some iconic WWE matches have seen wrestlers bleeding profusely from their foreheads after a shot to the head with a chair or a sledgehammer. However, though such accidents do happen, what wrestlers usually do is cut themselves on the forehead using blades. The blade is hidden somewhere or is with the referee who passes it on without the audience noticing.
Kane and The Undertaker are not brothers
This is probably one of the most popular story lines ever. The Undertaker's character was given a back story in order to introduce the character Kane. Kane was said to be Undertaker's brother whose face got burned when Taker set their childhood home on fire. However, this is completely false and Mark Calaway (Undertaker) and Glen Jacobs (Kane) are not related in any way.
Hogan was not the first to body-slam Andre the Giant
Andre the Giant vs Hulk Hogan encounter at WrestleMania 3 always ranks among the greatest moments ever. Hogan defeated the French giant by body slamming him on the canvas and counting him out by pinfall. It was propagated that Andre has been body slammed for the first time. This is false as he had been body slammed by Kamala and others, numerous times before.
