    What's the story

MS Dhoni will, undoubtedly, go down in history as India's greatest ever captain.

From a ticket collector, he became a trophy collector.

Today, he would take the field for the 500th time for India.

He would become the third Indian, after Tendulkar and Dravid, to achieve this feat.

Here we take a look at five instances, when India fell in love with Dhoni.

    Biggest innings

When MSD hit the six which won India World Cup

MS Dhoni ended India's 28-year wait for the ODI World Cup in 2011.

In the finale against Sri Lanka, India lost early wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

However, Dhoni stood up to the occasion and came in ahead of Yuvraj Singh.

He stitched a wonderful partnership with Gambhir.

Dhoni scored 91* and finished the game with a six.

    Patriot

When Team India was more important than Ziva

Dhoni's wife, Sakshi, was expecting their kid when MSD was leading India at the 2015 World Cup in Australia.

When asked if he would want to take a leave to visit his daughter, Dhoni responded- "As of now I am on national duties so I think everything else can wait. The World Cup is a very important campaign."

    Mr. Witty

The way he dealt with retirement questions

India had a fantastic 2015 World Cup campaign in Australia.

Indian bowlers had bowled out their opposition in every game but somehow India went down to hosts Australia in the semi-finals.

Following India's defeat, the media started questioning the Indian captain's abilities and wanted to know about his retirement plans.

But Dhoni was well prepared and gave one of the wittiest answers.

    Keeping his cool

When he decided to take a nap on the field

They say nothing good comes out of anger and nobody knows it better than 'Captain Cool' Dhoni.

During Sri Lanka vs India series, in 2017, fans were frustrated with the performance of the home team and started throwing things onto the field, thus, disrupting play.

MS remained unfazed by the incident and, instead, decided to use to opportunity to take a quick nap.

    Mr. Humble

When he turned water-boy for the Indian team

Dhoni might be the most senior player in the Indian cricket team, but he is, undoubtedly, the most humble player in the squad.

He recently proved it during the Ireland series.

The 36-year-old turned into a water-boy and served drinks to the Indian players.

This gesture by Dhoni impressed one and all as fans appreciated his humility.
