Social media has opened new doors of communication, unimaginable, even a couple of decades back. The World Cup is already the most popular sporting event in the world, and social media has taken it to the farthest corners. The 2018 edition of the coveted championship was no different. KFC South Africa trolls Brazilian star
The Brazilian genius, Neymar, has always received a lot of flak for his alleged play-acting on the football pitch. After Brazil's 2-0 win over Mexico, the fast food giants KFC South Africa's ad, which was made on June 15, suddenly went viral. Neymar's reaction to Layum's stamp, on his leg, seems to replicate the player in the funny video.
Swaying in style: Samuel Umtiti
Barcelona ace Samuel Umtiti's celebration after a goal against Belgium captured hearts, across the world, on social media. After scoring the match-winning goal, the French defender was seen strutting off towards the corner, swinging his hips in a dance move. Fans went on to create jokes where they demanded extended versions and replays of the dance.
The coolest President ever- Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic
After defeating hosts Russia, Croatia had reached their first semi-final since 1998, the performance became more special since their President was present to watch it live. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic is the first female President of Croatia and she was present, at the stadium, in a national jersey of her country. Her victory dance after Croatia's second goal went viral immediately.
From 'It's coming home' to 'They're coming home'
The most famous slogan of this World Cup, "It's coming home", went viral when a picture of England manager Gareth Southgate's waistcoat, with this slogan, was released by Huawei. The photo and slogan went viral immediately, with even BBC releasing a video on it. However, England's hopes were crushed when the exited the tournament. From 'it's coming home' it became 'they are coming home'.
Heart-warming gesture by Japanese fans
After their loss in the round of 16 to Belgium, fans from Japan were seen cleaning the stadium just like they had done in the group stage matches. While all fans celebrate and trash a football stadium, the Japanese have set a high standard of elegance and responsibility unparalleled in any sport. Social media filled with appreciation for Japanese after this.
