#FootballTrivia: These footballers played for more than one country
Playing for the national team is a great honor for any sportsperson. A chance to represent one's country and countrymen at international competitions is truly humbling. However, there have been players in football history who have donned more than one national jersey. A recent example is Diego Costa, who played for Brazil in two friendlies, before switching allegiance to Spain. Here're other such players.
One player but 4 different national teams
The Barcelona icon, Laszlo Kubala, was voted their greatest player of the 20th century during Blaugrana's centenary celebrations in 1999. Born a Hungarian, the prolific forward also held Czechoslovak and Spanish citizenships. This way he played for all these 3 nations. Interestingly, from 1954 to 1963, Kubala also donned the jersey for the national team of Catalonia, a nation not recognized by FIFA.
This French icon played a friendly for another country
Considered one of the best ever, Platini is a Juventus legend. He took France to two World Cup semi-finals. The three-time Ballon d'Or winner has 72 caps for France along with 41 goals under his belt. However, after retiring from Juventus, Platini played in an international friendly for the national team of Kuwait against the erstwhile Soviet Russia.
From Magical Magyars to Spain
A legend who missed out on World Cup glory due to the Miracle of Bern, Ferenc Puskas is one of the greatest ever. The Los Blancos icon won many accolades with the Hungarian team including a Central European Championship and an Olympic gold. With an incredible record of 85 caps and 84 goals for his country, Puskas also played for Spain, winning four caps.
Three nations for the blonde arrow
Di Stefano was the most influential Real Madrid player in the 1950s and helped them win 5 consecutive European Cups. Though born an Argentine, Di Stefano played mainly for Spain (23 goals, 31 caps). However, he has six goals to his name in as many matches for Argentina. The prolific forward also played for Colombia from 1951 to 1952.
Two World Cup finals with two different countries
Luis Monti was born in Argentina but made his name playing in the Serie A for Juventus. He has an unique achievement of being the only player to represent 2 countries at two different World Cup finals. Monti reached the final with Argentina in 1930 which they lost to Uruguay. However, then he won the Jules Rimet trophy in 1934 with Italy.
