Commonwealth Games: Shooters shine, Pardeep Singh settles for silver
Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games is turning out to be prolific for India. Shooters Mehuli Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela extended the country's medal tally by winning silver and bronze medals in the 10m Air Rifle event. This comes after Pardeep Singh clinched the silver medal in men's 105kg category. He managed a total lift of 352kg- 152kg snatch and 200kg clean and jerk.
Jitu Rai wins gold in men's 10m air pistol
Ace Indian shooter Jitu Rai continued to make India proud at the international stage as he won the gold in the men's 10m air pistol event. The army man shot a total of 235.1 at the Belmont Shooting Centre on Day 5 to beat Australia's Kerry Bell. India's medal tally now stands at 17 (8 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze).
Jitu Rai sets a new record, Om Mitharval wins bronze
Jitu set a new Commonwealth Games record with his 235.1 in the final while bagging the gold. Kerry Bell of Australia took silver with 233.5 while another Indian Om Mitharval bagged the bronze with a score of 214.3.
Athlete of Rai's quality cannot settle for anything but gold
Nepal-born Rai, who bagged the gold 50m air pistol event at Glasgow, is one of India's most successful shooters. He is also the 2014 Asian Games gold medalist and a two-time ISSF World Cup gold medalist. In August 2015, he was conferred with the Arjuna award for his heroics with the gun.
