Shikhar Dhawan hits the gym as he starts recovery process
Senior Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan is currently under observation after fracturing his thumb in the ICC World Cup 2019 match against Australia last Sunday. The southpaw has been ruled out for three weeks. Further, the Indian team called up youngster Rishabh Pant as his cover. Meanwhile, Dhawan was seen at the gym as he starts his recovery process.

Team India providing every assistance to Dhawan
Dhawan was ruled out of the washed out game against New Zealand and will also not take part in the upcoming clashes against Pakistan and Afghanistan. The team hopes to see Dhawan back for the clash against West Indies on June 27. At the moment, the management will be providing every assistance to Dhawan, despite having the back-up option of Pant.
'Dhawan may take 10 to 12 days to recover'
"We are monitoring Shikhar Dhawan. He may take 10 to 12 days to recover. We will assist him. Vijay Shankar is one of the options, if and when required. It's good to have back up," said India's batting coach Sanjay Bangar.
India to take call on Dhawan next week
For now, Pant will be attending all training sessions of the Indian team. The management will be taking a call on Dhawan sometime next week. The 31-year-old had struck a match-winning ton against Australia despite having been hit by a rising delivery from Pat Cummins. India are currently preparing for the marquee clash against Pakistan in Manchester on Sunday.
Focus on Pakistan as India occupy third place
KL Rahul is set to open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma against Pakistan. That might see Vijay Shankar coming in at number four. India also have the option of experienced batsman Dinesh Karthik. The Men in Blue currently occupy the third place in the standings (5 points). They earned a solitary point after the abandoned match against New Zealand.
